Seeking GOD
Reading the headlines yesterday; · I see fires in California · Earthquakes in south Carolina and Oklahoma · 7 killed in a trailer in Georgia · A girl kidnapped when she was 11 was hidden in a back yard for 18 years and gave birth to two girls was finally found. · People praising Castro and his health care · The federal reserve says it can’t tell us where the money is going Parents don’t want their kids to go to school because they are war zones and the government doesn’t want you to home school them. Our children are getting dumber on the whole; 1. I believe they lack imagination 2. They feel lost in a world that doesn’t seem to care We live in a society that doesn’t seem to care about the future but just what is here and now. President John Kennedy once said:
And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for
you - ask what you can do for your country. It’s appears that if President Kennedy were alive today, he would not be happy with the way America has turned out in the past 40 years. The word today would be: Ask not what I can do for my country but what my country can do for me. That would be what my children would say…daddy what can you do for me. Daddy I need this Daddy I need that Daddy I want this and I want that. And as loving parents trying to buy the love of our children we have spoiled them and they have not learned the old saying it is better to give that it is to receive. No for the children of today it is better to receive that it is to give.
I would also say that marriages are working on the same principles… Where God says that the two shall become one That use to mean that two would come together for · one purpose · One goal · One mind One was to watch over and protect the other. And marriage is about until death do us part. And I know that sometimes you ladies would wish that would come sooner than later. But know the reality is that usually one does not every join the other. · One tends to dominate · Control · Or depend on the other without ever doing their part of the marriage. The marriage becomes one sided…it’s either; · Abusive · Or one becomes the parent of the other one.
In marriage In our children It has become…not what you have done for me in the past but what will you do for me today…if not today sometimes it becomes this: · What are you doing for me right now · What will you do for me later on Sometimes either with children or with a spouse it becomes all about them.
No matter how hard you try or what you do… · It’s never enough · They don’t want to work for what they get… · They want to be handed everything on a platter…gold if not silver: with diamond trim. If you take Kennedy’s statement…
And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for
you - ask what you can do for your country. It can be simply turned around to …ask not of what you can do for your parents or your spouse but what your spouse or parents can do for you. And for many parents, grandparents, husbands and or wives we have, across the land, have found, felt, and seen or see the affects of this (it’s all about me) philosophy. · Crime is at an all time high · Morality is at an all time low · Divorce in and out of the church is the same · Homosexually is taught at length in our schools systems, our televisions shows, our movies, it has become a normal way of life. · Sex is the theme in our: o Bill boards o Our magazines o Our television programs o Our clothes · Our children have become: o A bothersome burden instead of our: § Joy § Our hope § Our heirs o They have become street kids § Throw away’s § Abortions § Distractions for our lives that we wish to: · Enjoy · Not have any worries · Party away · Dance all night · And last we have thrown out our creator…we have done to Him what our spouses or our children have done to us. · And we wonder why…there is no love in this world… · We wonder why everyone is out to get what they can and not care about anything else or anyone else but themselves. · We wonder why drug abuse is so high · We wonder why so many people are on anti depressants · We wonder why
Why…why…why? Why are there not any answers? There should be: · I listen to Joel Osteen on TV. · I belong to a church. · I’m a good person · I have never done harm to anyone · I give to the united way… You want to know why…the world is in the shape it’s in. You want to know why your kids are they way they are. You want to know why your spouse treats you the way they do. You want to know why you are so miserable in your life. There is a clue… And it’s found In God’s Word Psalm 10 NIV 1Why, O Lord, do you stand far off? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble? 2In his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak, who are caught in the schemes he devises. 3He boasts of the cravings of his heart; he blesses the greedy and reviles the Lord. 4In his pride the wicked does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God. 5His ways are always prosperous; he is haughty and your laws are far from him; he sneers at all his enemies. 6He says to himself, “Nothing will shake me; I’ll always be happy and never have trouble.” 7His mouth is full of curses and lies and threats; trouble and evil are under his tongue. 8He lies in wait near the villages; from ambush he murders the innocent, watching in secret for his victims. 9He lies in wait like a lion in cover; he lies in wait to catch the helpless; he catches the helpless and drags them off in his net. 10His victims are crushed, they collapse; they fall under his strength. 11He says to himself, “God has forgotten; he covers his face and never sees.”
We can see in these verses that there is a description of what has happen in our world today… In verse 2, mankind has become arrogant Verse three, he seeks what’s in his heart and hates God In verse four, he is prideful, does not seek God for there is no room for God Verse five, he is well off, because he doesn’t tithe, above the law and doesn’t think much of people who are different from him…IE Christians Verse 6; I would say he seeks to please himself Verse 7-10, he is a liar and he threatens those who don’t agree with him, he also devises ways to get ahead, get even, or to destroy people. And last in verse 11, he does either believe in God, or feels that God does not care about him…
I believe this is a picture of most people in the world today…maybe even those in church today. Maybe people are in church for their advantage, maybe they are here, like I’ve said before…
And when you are here because for some other reason besides God… Ø You can’t hear the message of what God is trying to tell you… Ø The world can’t hear the message of what God is trying to tell it. Ø Your heart has been turn to stone Ø And you reject what you hear or what little of it you hear. o You believe it’s about the other person and not you. o You believe that God doesn’t speak to you. Ø And all the while you just don’t want to be here Ø And you don’t want to listen.
Proverbs 28:5 Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek the LORD understand all things. Those that SEEK the Lord understand all things. That is the problem with the world today…People are not seeking the Lord. They are seeking their own self interest. Why worry about tomorrow when we can live for today. Why worry about heaven or hell…when they may not exist. Surly if I am worried about hell I don’t have to be…I can ask for forgiveness before I die or when I get old…there is too much life left for me to live. Is there too much life to live before we die? Ask that to those 7 that were killed in the trailer. Ask that to those who are murdered every day in crimes throughout the world. Ask that to the millions of abortions of innocence children. Ask that of those who die in car accidents, work related accidents or even just a small heart attack that drops them dead where they stand.
Brothers and sisters we have to seek God today!
1 Chronicles 16:11 Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually.
Psalms 34:14 Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.
Psalms 119:2 Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart.
Jeremiah 29:13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. Matthew 6:33: But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Matthew 7:7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: Luke 19:10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. You see…Jesus came so you could find peace. He came so you could find: Ø Love Ø Happiness Ø Hope Ø Purpose You see…God is all the above. We need to seek Him today…..
Ecclesiastes 1:1-9 The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem. Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity. What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun? One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever. The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he arose. The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to his circuits. All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again. All things are full of labour; man cannot utter it: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing. The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.
All is vanity…without Christ. |
